1905 Barber Dimes
Barber Dimes are so called because of their designer, Charles E Barber. The Liberty head on the obverse side of the Barber dime has indications of classical Greek and Roman influence. The word `Liberty` is inscribed on the headband. The reverse displays a wreath of agricultural products with the words `One Dime`
The Barber coins were called Barber dimes, halves and quarters by coin collectors. The first Barber dimes were made in 1892; over half a billion pieces were produced over the next twenty five years. Four mints produced Barber dimes; their mintmarks are found on the coins Denver (D), San Francisco (S), New Orleans (O). Those from Philadelphia do not bear any mintmarks. The majority of Barber dimes were produced by the Philadelphia mint.
Barber Dimes are also called Silver Barber Dimes because of their metal composition of 90% silver and 10% copper. Coins are graded according to their age, condition and circulation. Certification from the two professional coin grading services PGCS and NCS will add to the value of the coins. 1905 certified Barber Dimes fetch higher values in the market.
Among the collectible Barber coins are the rare 1905 Barber dimes. 1905 Barber Dimes from Philadelphia, San Francisco and New Orleans have been graded as MS65 by the PCGS. This mean that they are considered as gems. 1905 Barber Dime from New Orleans is also rated among the very rare Barber coins.
